About the Role

As a Tenancy Sustainment Officer within Nottingham City Council Housing Services, you will play a key role in helping tenants maintain successful, independent tenancies. You will provide proactive, person centred support by offering timely advice on welfare benefits, debts and housing options, ensuring customers are equipped to meet their housing costs and sustain their homes.

Working closely with internal teams and a wide range of external partners, you will help tenants access benefits, financial inclusion services, and community support. You will identify support needs early, make appropriate referrals, and coordinate with agencies such as The Department of Work and Pensions, Social Care, voluntary organisations, and employment or training providers.

You will also promote digital inclusion, maximise household income, and contribute to service improvements through data analysis, partnership working, and innovative local initiatives. Your role will involve supporting vulnerable tenants, assisting at tenancy sign ups and endings, monitoring performance, and helping reduce tenancy failures through practical, solution focused interventions.

This is a customer focused role where you will make a real difference to local communities by supporting tenants from diverse backgrounds to thrive, remain independent, and positively engage with the services available to them.

About You The ideal candidate will have:

1. Experience of working within a welfare benefits environment and have a working knowledge of housing benefits and welfare benefits

2. Experience of providing support to vulnerable customers and enabling them to sustain their tenancy

3. Experience of advising tenants on their responsibilities and ensuring compliance with legal requirements relating to tenancies

4. Experience of working in partnership with internal and external partners, and relevant agencies

5. A proven ability to represent the service by developing and maintaining effective liaison and relationships with internal and external representatives and other bodies.

6. Good interpersonal skills and a proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
