About the RoleSlough Borough Council is looking for a motivated and experienced Temporary Accommodation Acquisitions Officer to join their Housing team on a 6-month contract. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in helping local residents access safe and suitable temporary housing. You'll be at the forefront of securing accommodation for households in housing need, working closely with landlords, agents, and property providers across Slough and the surrounding areas. If you have strong negotiation skills, a good understanding of housing legislation, and enjoy building relationships within the property sector - this could be the perfect fit for you.
Key Responsibilities- Source and secure suitable temporary and private sector accommodation to meet the Council's statutory homelessness duties.
 - Build and maintain strong working relationships with landlords, letting agents, and housing providers.
 - Negotiate fair rental terms and ensure all accommodation meets required health, safety, and quality standards.
 - Carry out property inspections and ensure compliance with housing regulations and licensing requirements.
 - Work collaboratively with internal housing teams to allocate and manage placements effectively.
 - Keep accurate records of property procurement, tenancy arrangements, and associated costs.
 - Support the Council's temporary accommodation strategy and contribute to reducing reliance on expensive nightly-paid accommodation.
 
- Previous experience in housing, property acquisition, or private sector leasing - ideally within a local authority or housing association.
 - Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
 - Good understanding of homelessness legislation, property standards, and tenancy law.
 - Excellent organisational and communication skills with a proactive approach.
 - Confident working independently and managing a varied workload.
 - Desirable:
 - Knowledge of the local housing market within Slough or the wider Berkshire area.
 - Experience working within a homelessness prevention or housing solutions team.
 - Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
 
- 6-month contract with potential for extension.
 - £25-£30 per hour (Umbrella), depending on experience.
 - Hybrid working - mix of office-based and remote work.
