Join a leading independent technology and services provider as a Technician 2!

Job Overview:
This role involves delivering structured cabling, fibre optic installations, and rack-and-stack activities within data centre and corporate environments. The engineer will handle testing, fault diagnostics, Pathway installations, and on-site support for remote network teams. Travel within the UK and internationally is required, along with flexibility for night or weekend work. Strong technical skills, safety certifications, and professional communication are essential.

Location: Birmingham
Rate: An hourly rate, in-scope IR35, of £14.90 (PAYE) OR £19.34 per hour (via a Hays Approved Umbrella Company).
Contract Length: 23 Mar - 30 Sep 2026
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (7:00 - 19:00)

Key Requirements
Must be very familiar with working in Data Centre and Corporate environments.
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in the structured cabling industry.
Good understanding of various Structured Cabling Solutions.
Capable of installing, terminating, and testing Fibre Optic cables.
Experienced in using Fluke test equipment and performing fault diagnosis.
Must have Health & Safety Training (CSCS, ECS, or equivalent country-specific qualification) affiliated with the Construction Industry Training Board.
Should hold at least 3 industry or manufacturer installation accreditations (eg, Commscope, Corning, Panduit, or other major brands).

Must have completed an industry-recognized Structured Cabling and Fibre Optic Training Course, such as:
CNET CNIT
BICSI Engineer/Technician
City & Guilds
B-TEC or equivalent
IPAF and/or PASMA Training preferred (or equivalent local powered-access qualification).
Experience installing cable pathways (basket trays, trunking, fibre runners).
Ability to understand and follow patching schedules/cut sheets.
Experience installing power and data cables within server and networking racks.
Experience in rack-and-stack of active network hardware (Switches, Routers, Servers).
Able to follow instructions and provide on-site support to remote network/systems administrators.
Ability to apply basic IP Addressing under supervision.
Experience with installing and configuring UPS systems (desirable).
Excellent communication skills and a professional attitude, with experience engaging stakeholders at all levels.
Must be willing and able to travel within the UK and internationally (including air travel) for project work.
May be required to work night shifts, weekends, or flexible hours depending on project requirements.
