Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technical Support Engineer to be based at our Hampton Sewage Treatment Works. You will be part of a team providing all-around technical support to the Electrical Services team across process operations and Capital Delivery. This includes scrutinizing the installation of new assets to ensure they meet TWUL asset standards. The role also involves delivering directly managed projects.

At Thames Water, we operate a significant number of high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical power networks, which are central to water production and waste treatment for our 15 million customers.

As the Electrical Technical Support Engineer, your role will be to maintain the safe and reliable operation of these critical electrical assets. A high level of knowledge in electrical technology, safety procedures, and providing expert support to core process operations is essential. You will support frontline teams in resolving problems, implementing solutions, upgrading assets, and investigating incidents.

What you'll be doing as the Electrical Technical Support Engineer
  1. Provide technical support and advice on electrical system operation and maintenance, including risk management.
  2. Support high voltage or complex low voltage asset upgrade schemes and deliver capital programmes.
  3. Investigate electrical system failures or unsafe events and produce reports.
  4. Manage maintenance reports, asset registers, manuals, and technical information.
  5. Undertake asset assessment surveys and support site inspections with recommendations and solutions.
  6. Coach and mentor team members for Authorised Person appointments and develop technical competence.
  7. Review risk assessments and method statements to ensure electrical safety, and evaluate contractor safety procedures.
  8. Participate in out-of-hours support for electrical networks, requiring appointment as an Authorised Person through a development plan.

Base Location: Hampton Coal Wharf - TW12 2ES.

Working hours: 38 hours Monday, with participation in an out-of-hours rota for additional pay.

What you should bring to the role
  • HNC, NVQ Level 3 in electrical engineering, or significant related experience.
  • Formal training in BS7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations.
  • Appointment as an Authorised Person for HV or LV systems.
  • Proven experience in industrial electrical power and engineering.
  • Knowledge of Electricity at Work Regulations and application.
  • Experience in large industrial utility or water company environments.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations, especially electrical safety rules.
  • Training and operational experience as an Authorised Person.
  • Experience engaging with operations teams, contractors, and third parties.
  • Experience mentoring and producing maintenance and fault reports.
