Job Description

Technical Safety Engineer

Our client, a leading independent Oil & Gas operator, is currently seeking a Technical Safety Engineer to join their QSSHE team, located in Norwich. This is a full-time, 12-month contract based in Norwich, working Monday to Friday.

Essential Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Higher technical qualification within engineering field (e.g., Process Safety, Chemical, or Mechanical).
  • 10+ years' experience in Safety Engineering in the Oil & Gas Industry.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word/Excel), PHAST, PHA-Pro, BowTie XP, FLARESIM.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and letters, work to deadlines, and be organised and methodical.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Chartered in mechanical, chemical, or process engineering.
  • Experience in both design and operation.

Job overview:

The Technical Safety Engineer will support the SNS operation, ensuring compliance with UK QSSHE legislation, codes of practice, guidelines, industry standards, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting safety studies such as Total Risk Management, HAZID, Bowtie, ALARP.
  • Developing Barrier Diagrams (Bowties).
  • Performing consequence modelling using DNV GL PHAST or FLARESIM.
  • Carrying out Mini Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), Event and Fault Tree development.
  • Hazardous Area Classification.
  • Fire and Explosion Risk Assessment.
  • Preparing Safety Case Material Changes.
  • Conducting 5-yearly Thorough Reviews.
  • Knowledge of COMAH regulations and Computational Fluid Dynamics modelling is desirable.

Supporting technical safety studies with contractors, identifying opportunities for improvement, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards.

Providing coaching and guidance to teams, liaising with regulatory bodies, and supporting Safety Case Regulations compliance.

Safety & Environmentally Critical Courses:

  • FLARESIM (Flare Modelling), Health & Safety Compliance (Inc. SECE), CBTPHA-Pro End User, Phast Advanced Discharge Modelling, Phast Advanced Dispersion and Toxic Modelling, Phast Advanced Flammable Modelling, Phast Software Introduction, Risk Management - Bowtie Method, Hazardous Area Classification.
