Tech Lead - Robotics Systems (m/f/d) - Temp (6 months)
We are seeking an experienced Tech Lead to drive the technical execution of a cutting-edge robotics initiative that is reshaping large-scale fulfillment operations. This project delivers an advanced robotic system that improves efficiency, safety, and ergonomics by combining robotics, engineering, and physical AI.
The system uses advanced vision, tactile sensing, and force feedback to autonomously pick and stow a wide range of items with speed and precision. Through real-world learning and human-robot collaboration, it continuously improves performance while reducing physically demanding work for onsite teams.
As Tech Lead, you will serve as the onsite technical authority, leading system stability and deployments while managing a small team of Field Engineers and acting as the key interface between onsite operations and central engineering and product teams.
Location: Onsite, Erfurt
Contract Duration: 6 months (initial)
Project Duration: 12 months+
Key Responsibilities
Technical & People Leadership
- Act as the onsite Tech Lead and primary escalation point for robotic system performance, stability, and reliability.
- Lead and coordinate a team of approximately 3 Field Engineers, providing technical guidance, task prioritization, and day-to-day support.
- Ensure consistent execution of best practices across the field engineering team.
System Maintenance & Evolution
- Lead and coordinate firmware and hardware upgrades, image deployments, and feature releases.
- Own preventive maintenance strategies, auditing existing processes and driving continuous improvement and simplification.
Issue Management & Escalation
- Lead root-cause analysis of complex technical issues impacting operations.
- Escalate software, hardware, and system-level defects to Engineering, Product Launch Managers, and Program Leadership with clear diagnostics, impact assessments, and recommended actions.
Deployment & Release Coordination
- Plan and manage weekly deployments and system updates, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Validate new releases onsite and provide structured feedback to central engineering teams.
Operational Excellence
- Partner closely with operations, safety, and program teams to ensure reliable day-to-day system performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve scalability, robustness, maintainability, and supportability of the robotic solution.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Robotics, Manufacturing, or a related technical field
- Proven experience in a Tech Lead, Senior Engineer, Systems Lead, or Field Engineering Lead role
- Demonstrated experience coordinating or leading small technical teams
- Strong understanding of robotic systems, firmware/hardware updates, and preventive maintenance
- experience leading deployments, upgrades, or field rollouts of production systems
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Clear, confident communicator with the ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, operational environment
