About the RoleThe role of the Technical Director is to lead client and technical development in a range of sectors. The incumbent is responsible for supporting sales, client relations and technical development with an emphasis on Structural Engineering. To operate in an efficient manner that mirrors our Corporate Structure in HDR whilst encouraging the Vision and Values of the company, through coordination and aligning the above with other leads to ensure consistency of offering across all disciplines.
Responsibilities- Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's lifecycle (from development & initiation to close-out)
- Responsible for any project assignment regardless of size, visibility, number of disciplines, technical complexity or number of staff.
- Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
- Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings
- Conduct work sessions for deliverable development in conjunction with other staff and stakeholders
- Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule
- Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule
- Work with the Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews
- Implement QA/QC procedures
- Supervise large project staffs and act as mentor for less-experienced Project Managers
- Perform other duties as needed
- BEng, MSc or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or relevant subject
- Extensive technical experience, especially in designing and managing projects, ideally minimum 8 years'
- Chartered Status in chosen discipline preferred and business qualifications if not already achieved.
- Industry experience working in a design consultancy
- Experience of monitoring contract staff or third-party appointments would be desirable.
- Skills in project managing on-going jobs.
- Experience in the same or similar position is desired.
- Competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint.
- The ability to project a positive and professional attitude at all times.
- Good knowledge and use of appropriate project and design analysis software.
- Able to establish rapport and good working relationships within the project team and Clients.
- leadership and people management skills and experience preferred.
- To be able to work as part as a team and collaboratively and co-operatively.
