Job Description

The Caterfood Buying Group is a network of independent foodservice suppliers that collaborate to provide a wide range of products, industry expertise, and extensive geographical coverage across England, Wales, the Channel Islands, and the UK.

This role sits within The Caterfood Buying Group, primarily supporting the Technical Manager by providing technical support for the ongoing performance monitoring of our own label and branded products. The position oversees data integrity for the Caterfood own label range, with a heavy focus on ensuring compliance and data accuracy across various platforms.

This role is homebased with travel required within the UK roughly once a month.

This is a part time position, 20 hours a week Monday to Friday (Hours flexible between 9 and 5).

Key responsibilities
  • Supporting the Technical team with the set up of Caterfood Own Label products, including setting up specifications on the OPRi system and creating Erudus specifications.
  • Working with an external technical consultancy to support the approval of product artwork and specifications, ensuring legal compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Developing a product review process for Caterfood Own Label and branded products to ensure data accuracy and compliance. Checking physical product labels against Erudus and third party platforms.
  • Auditing supplier product data and charging for discrepancies in line with the CFBG charter.
  • Reviewing marketing collateral before launch across member websites and third party platforms, providing feedback and support where required.
  • Ensuring all CFBG products are entered and up to date on Erudus.
  • Supporting QHSEs and the Buying team with own label product technical queries and escalating to suppliers promptly.
  • Supplier performance monitoring, including laboratory testing, Certificate of Analyse collation, nutritional monitoring (e.g., salt), free range egg and palm oil trackers in line with CFBG targets.
  • Attending regular team meetings and providing relevant technical updates.
  • Supporting the development, management and evolution of the Quality Management Systems, policies, resources and procedures, implementing changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Providing customer, third party professional and trade body liaison as required.
  • Assisting with emerging industry issues, legislative changes and critical product issues, both during and outside of hours if required.
  • Health and safety accountabilities:
    • Comply with the Company Health & Safety Policy.
    • Comply with all verbal and written instructions in matters pertaining to Health & Safety.
    • Attend Health & Safety training courses as instructed.
Required qualifications
  • Food Science or Technology degree preferred; examples of higher learning are essential.
  • Substantial proven experience in a manufacturing, foodservice or retail environment.
  • Proven planning and organising skills with the ability to manage projects.
  • Strong IT skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong drive and adaptability to ensure deliverables are met efficiently and effectively.
  • Good communication and influencing skills - oral and written.
  • Proven experience managing administrative activities.
  • Good stakeholder management and organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret and analyse technical information and provide insight to non technical representatives.
