Job Description

We havean exciting opportunity for a Team Lead Physiotherapist to join the MedicinePhysiotherapy team at Princess Alexandra Hospital. You will provide skilledteam leadership in planning and delivering high standards of physiotherapyassessment, management, treatment, and advice to patients on the medical wards.You will support advanced assessment and management of patients with complex ormulti-pathology presentations, determining the best delivery of care inconjunction with the multidisciplinary team (MDT). You will work as anautonomous professional, adhering to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy(CSP) rules of professional conduct and standards, as well as the HealthProfessions Council (HPC) regulations.

Main duties of the job

As aTeam Lead Physiotherapist, you will undertake service reviews and audits toevaluate quality, efficiency, and outcomes, implementing changes in practice tomaintain excellence in clinical care. You will take a lead role in thesupervision, teaching, and appraisal of physiotherapists, non-qualified staff,students, and multi-disciplinary team members in physiotherapeutic care withinthis specialty. You will be assessing a wide range of conditions experienced bypatients within this specialty, drawing on advanced knowledge of anatomy,physiology, and pathology, even in situations where conflicting evidence ispresent. You will ensure consistent and effective physiotherapy practice acrossthe team and support colleagues to achieve the same.

Job responsibilities
  • To demonstrate expert assessment and manual treatment skills, applyingadvanced knowledge to complex patient conditions, ensuring safe and effectiveinterventions tailored to individual needs.
  • To take responsibility for the safe use and maintenance of equipment,including teaching junior physiotherapists and non-qualified staff in itscorrect and competent use for both treatment and patient self-management.
  • To supervise, mentor, and appraise junior staff and students, supportingtheir professional development while fostering consistent high-qualityphysiotherapy care across the medical team.
  • To provide specialist guidance and practical instruction to patients,carers, and MDT members, enhancing understanding of physiotherapy interventionsand ensuring a coordinated approach to care.
  • To manage and prioritise patient caseloads effectively, making clinicaldecisions independently while coordinating with the MDT to facilitate timelyassessment, treatment, and safe discharge or transfer.
  • To actively engage in continuous professional development and serviceimprovement, participating in training, reflective practice, competencysetting, and evaluation to maintain and enhance specialist physiotherapyskills.
Person Specification Qualifications
  • HCPC-registered Physiotherapist with a degree or graduate diploma.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in medical and broad NHS settings.
  • Competent in Moving & Handling, BLS, SystmOne, and on-call duties.
  • Experience supervising and educating junior staff and students.
