About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Teaching LVI Lead Keeper (Maternity Cover) with a level 3 or above relevant animal-based qualification (or with equivalent experience) to join our accredited and awarding winning Wildlife and Conservation Park here at our York campus. This role will be working a 37 hour a week, across the full year, on a fixed term basis.
We are seeking an individual who will be responsible for leading the instructor keepers into quality teaching and learning for our Animal Management students at Askham Bryan, liaising directly with the Curriculum team lead and quality. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the whole team for compliance, animal welfare and developments across the Wildlife Park. The individual will ensure licensing and membership standards continue to be met by placing accountability and responsibility on the team on the ground and co-ordinating their time to ensure good productivity within the team.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and passionate about animal welfare and conservation but also driven to provide an outstanding experience for our learners. Working alongside the LVI team to deliver conservation projects, research and assist the education manager in our education strategy. You will be at the forefront of new developments and compliance delivering the best standards of care working as a link between the management team and the team on the ground.
Educated to degree level or above in animal sciences or with relevant experience, candidates must have experience teaching or developing others. With excellent knowledge of zoo animal welfare and management, particularly Reptile, Amphibian, Invertebrate and Fish species, you will have good communication skills, leadership skills and awareness of zoo licensing and competent in following and adhering to policy and procedure.

Start Date: The College operates 2 starter/induction days per month to welcome and onboard new members. These are usually the first Monday and third Wednesday of each month (unless there is a bank holiday).
