Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: Bury, BL9
Pay Rate: £107.71 - £111.85 per day
Contract: Full-time Term Time Only
Start Date: ASAP / September
Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning? We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Bury, BL9.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work with children and young people who require additional support with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement in education. You will play a key role in helping pupils develop confidence, build positive relationships and achieve their potential within a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment.
The RoleAs a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people and act as a consistent role model.
- Support pupils in and out of the classroom to encourage engagement with learning.
- Promote positive behaviour through consistent, calm and nurturing approaches.
- Implement individual behaviour support strategies and plans.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, resilience, confidence and independence.
- Help pupils develop positive coping strategies and make appropriate choices.
- Support the de-escalation of challenging behaviour using appropriate strategies.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and other professionals.
- Monitor behaviour and provide feedback to teaching and pastoral staff.
- Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, autism, ADHD or additional needs.
- Is calm, patient and confident when managing challenging behaviour.
- Can build strong and positive relationships with pupils.
- Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Is resilient, adaptable and committed to improving outcomes for young people.
- Can remain consistent and professional when supporting pupils with complex behavioural needs.
Experience within education, care, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring or a similar setting is desirable, but we welcome applications from people with transferable skills and the right attitude.
