About the Role
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of autistic young people who may have experienced challenges throughout their educational journey. As a Teacher at Oakham Shires School, you will play a key role in helping pupils achieve their academic, personal and life goals through a highly individualised and nurturing approach to learning.
With a maximum of six pupils in each class and strong adult support, you will have the time and flexibility to build meaningful relationships, adapt teaching to individual needs and focus on what truly matters, helping every pupil succeed. Experience of supporting disadvantaged learners and pupils with SEND would be advantageous, as would an understanding of autism and developmental trauma.
Working within our "in their own time and space" philosophy, you will help pupils develop confidence, independence and emotional resilience. We recognise behaviour as communication and place a strong emphasis on understanding each young person's needs, ensuring they feel listened to, respected and involved in decisions about their learning and development.
We're looking for passionate, resilient and compassionate teachers who bring a positive, non-judgemental approach and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people with additional needs.
In return, you'll benefit from:
- Small class sizes of up to six pupils with dedicated adult support.
- 7.5 hours of non-contact time each week for PPA, training and meetings.
- A strong safeguarding culture centred on pupil voice and wellbeing.
- A collaborative and supportive team environment.
- A freshly cooked lunch shared with pupils each day.
- Dedicated time and initiatives focused on staff wellbeing.
Teaching Qualification (QTS/PGCE) is essential
