Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Structural Engineer-in-Training is responsible for working with AtkinsRéalis Engineering, providing design and engineering support for projects. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work closely with major project teams from concept to completion.

This position is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Your role within the team

  • Prepare structural calculations and review main elements for building structures: Concrete, Steel, Masonry, and Wood.
  • Prepare drawings in Revit or AutoCAD.
  • Work with the Manager of Engineering to ensure the quality of detailing aligns with company standards.
  • Participate in field reviews and inspections to assist with building systems.
  • Assist in preparing concepts and presentation materials for proposals.
  • Manage and deliver medium and smaller-scale projects simultaneously.
  • Establish project drawing milestone dates.

The ideal candidate

  • A degree in Structural/Civil Engineering. Registered as an Engineer-in-Training or eligible for P.Eng registration.
  • Reliability Clearance for Public Works and RCMP, or ability to obtain it (must have been a resident in Canada for at least 5 years).
  • 3-5 years of engineering experience, including design using NBCC; experience with American IBC & ACSE 7 Codes is a plus.
  • Experience in detailing steel and concrete structures for various building types; federal project experience (e.g., National Defence) is an asset.
  • Proficiency in STAAD PRO and ETABS.
  • Excellent analytical, written, oral, organizational, and multitasking skills.
