Staff Nurse - Haematology Day Unit

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our Haematology Day Unit team. The day unit treats patients with malignant and non malignant haematology conditions. Treatments include Systemic Anti Cancer Treatments, Blood products, Venesections and IV supportive care.
You should have 12 months post registration experience, venepuncture and cannulation skills, be IV and blood product competent and have a keen interest in haematology and working with the wider multidisciplinary team. Chemotherapy experience is desirable but full training can be provided for this.
You will be expected to provide and maintain high standards of care to our patients, be able to work autonomously as well as part of a cohesive team and have excellent communication skills.
Main duties of the job- Administering SACT and supportive treatments to patients haematological malignancies.
- Administering blood products to patients with malignant and non malignant conditions.
- Have an awareness and understanding of the needs of patients and the different treatments administered within the day unit.
- Able to plan, develop and evaluate care given to patients within the day unit.
- Ability to work well in a team environment on a busy day unit as well as manage and prioritise a case load of patients autonomously.
- Have an awareness of patients' responses to treatment and ability to recognise when further assessment, intervention or escalation may be required.

Person Specification Qualifications and Skills- Minimum of one year post registration experience.
- Awareness of professional responsibilities.
- Cannulation and venepuncture skills.
- Able to administer intravenous medicines and blood products.
- Ultrasound cannulation skills.
- Chemotherapy competency.
- RN (general).
- Working towards a degree.
- Haematology/Oncology Care course module.
- Experience working in Haematology/Oncology.
- Ability to prioritise work.
- Ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care needs according to the individual.
- Good verbal and written communication abilities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the application of evidence based practice.
- Demonstrate and understanding of the assessment process for student nurses.
