Job Description
The role

Applications are invited from Registered Nurses trained in general nursing or adult nursing of the NMC Register to join our enthusiastic and innovative team within the NHS GG&C, QEUH, Coronary Care Unit. The Coronary Care Unit (CCU) provides care for patients requiring a higher level of care relating to complex acute heart related illnesses for example Myocardial Infarction, invasive and/or non invasive monitoring. We are seeking motivated individuals who strive to deliver patient centred care to a high standard. As well as having current NMC registration it is also essential you have evidence of professional development, basic IT skills, good communication skills and enthusiasm for working in a Coronary Care environment.

As part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's pre employment checking for all appointed candidates evidence of current NMC registration will be required prior to start date.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
  • Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
  • Permanent Contract
  • Full time position (37 hours per week)
  • Shift pattern for this post are rotational 12 hour shifts day and nights available Monday to Sunday.
Key responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • To assess patient needs, plan/implement and evaluate a programme of care which is evidence based utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
  • Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.
  • Practice within the legal & Ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well being are met.
  • Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Legislation, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures.
  • Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner, thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.
  • Contribute to the provision of an appropriate learning environment in line with NES Quality Placement Standards.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • 1st / 2nd Level Registered Nurse.
  • Must have a valid live NMC PIN
  • Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part time working hours will be reduced on a pro rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
