Staff Data Engineer

Staff Data Engineer - GCP - Big Query - DBT - Hybrid - 2x a week (London) - paying up to £95k

A fast-growing and innovative technology company is looking for a Staff Data Engineer to join its expanding Data & Analytics team.

This is an opportunity to play a key technical leadership role in shaping a modern cloud-based data platform and enabling data-driven decision making across the organisation.

The Role

As a Staff Data Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and ongoing optimisation of the company's cloud-based data platform. You will work closely with analysts and stakeholders across multiple business areas to deliver scalable, high-quality data solutions that support insight and decision making.

Over the next 12-18 months, the platform will increasingly transition toward Google BigQuery, moving away from Azure-based infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes

• Develop and optimise data models to support analytics and reporting

• Lead improvements and enhancements to the data platform architecture

• Monitor and tune system performance to ensure reliability and scalability

• Build and maintain cloud-based data infrastructure

Skills & Experience

Essential

• Strong expertise in SQL, including complex queries, optimisation, and indexing

• Experience working with ETL tools such as Google Cloud Dataflow, DBT, Azure Data Factory, Fivetran, or Databricks

• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT pipelines, and dimensional modelling

• Experience building and managing cloud-based data infrastructure (GCP)

• Experience using Git/DevOps for version control and collaboration

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
