Are you a Rheumatologist looking to join a dynamic team and to take an active part in shaping future Rheumatology services in North Cumbria? Why not consider joining us in our modern hospitals on the edge of the beautiful Lake District National Park?

NCIC is working in partnership with The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine. This will offer potential opportunities to support rural and remote medicine as well as help "grow our own" medical workforce within Cumbria.

The post will be based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle but the post holder will be required to work at other sites within the Trust.

On-calls within General Medicine would also be available if desired by the candidate.

Main duties of the job

Applications are welcome from candidates wishing to work full or part time in Rheumatology. In the course of his/her work the job holder liaises with nursing, professional and technical, social work and administrative staff.

An educational supervisor will be assigned to provide support. Appraisal and Job Planning is carried out at regular intervals, and forwarded to the specialty lead. The programme of training for each individual doctor will be flexible depending on his/her particular needs and stage of training.

Person specification Qualifications & Training
  • Full registration with GMC
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • An appropriate higher qualification
Skills & Knowledge
  • Minimum of 4 years post graduate experience, 2 of which in speciality.
  • High level of clinical experience and competence in the management of the breadth of common rheumatological presentations
  • Able to clinically evaluate and manage a patient
  • Able to employ expertise and clinical decision making skills of a senior and independent/autonomous practitioner.
  • Treats patients as individuals, promoting a person-centred approach to their care, including self-management.
  • Demonstrate adequate experience and training in Joint injections.
  • Experience of training and supervising junior medical staff and students.
  • Training and Experience in Ultrasound of Joints.
Leadership & Management
  • Awareness of leadership responsibilities as a clinician and demonstrates appropriate leadership
  • Ability to lead a medical team
  • Managing situations that are unfamiliar, complex or unpredictable
Teaching
  • Experience of, and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.
  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
  • Experience of supervising SpR's
  • Educational Qualification
Research, Audit and Clinical Governance
  • Commitment to continuing medical education, appraisal and clinical governance.
