Job overviewThe Children and Young People's Department at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an associate specialist in general paediatrics for a fixed-term contract of 1 year starting February 2026. The role offers continuity of care on the acute paediatric ward and Emergency Department, with opportunities for further specialty work and development of a special interest. Applicants must have at least two years' experience at ST4+ level in NHS paediatric care.
Main duties of the jobThe post is based in general paediatrics, encompassing PED, inpatients and outpatient clinics. Working hours are 8.30am to 5pm for four days a week between Monday and Friday. Out-of-hours work and on-call duties are not included, although successful candidates may sign up to the hospital bank for occasional locum work. The postholder will work under the direction of Consultants and be directly responsible to the Clinical Director.
Job responsibilities- Provide continuity of care on the acute paediatric ward and Emergency Department, and contribute to the development of a special interest activity.
- Work under the direction of Consultants in general paediatrics and be directly responsible to the Clinical Director.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary discussions, ensuring safe and effective treatment planning.
- Actively participate in audit, education and quality improvement projects.
- Demonstrate leadership skills and a commitment to clinical governance and top quality patient care.
- Maintain a can do, patient-centred, team working approach in line with UCLH Trust values.

Person Specification Knowledge & Qualifications- Full GMC Registration (or equivalent)
- MRCPCH or equivalent
- APLS or equivalent
- Evidence of commitment to paediatrics as a career
- Broad experience at a junior level across a range of specialties
- Experience of working in ED and acute paediatric wards
- Experience of clinical teaching
- Ability to manage common acute and chronic paediatric disorders
- Good practical skills
- Ability to teach and train junior staff
- Able to communicate well in verbal and written English
- Demonstrate ability to meet Trust values of safety, kindness, teamwork and improvement
- Demonstrated understanding of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and/or knowledge of the NHS obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duties

£61,542 to £99,216 a year per annum plus London weighting
