This post is for a Specialty Doctor in Frailty and Geriatrics. This is a whole time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. As a Specialty Doctor for Frailty, you will play a vital role in our multidisciplinary team. Working closely with six experienced consultants, fellow specialist doctors, junior doctors, frailty practitioners, and Advanced Clinical Practitioners, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of patients.

Main duties of the job- Contribute to the Frailty service at Whiston/St Helens Hospitals
- Work in the medical team in the Ambulatory SDEC in the Frailty Unit
- Support the management of patients at Bevan Court 2
- Participate in the initial assessment and management of patients on in AED and the acute frailty unit.
- Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties.
- Work Closely with the Consultants FY1's, CT Trainees and ANPs about management of patients.
- Develop skills in managing the wards to avoid unnecessary patient delays and maintain good clinical care to all patient
- To participate in clinical audit and activities.
- To participate in continuing professional development. Study leave is to be negotiated.
- Educational supervision will be provided.
- To maintain a portfolio of training.
- To comply with Trust policies and procedures, have (and maintain) GMC registration/licensing.
- To ensure good documentation and record keeping
- To ensure all admin tasks including are complete within local Trust targets
A £338 million (PFI) investment has re built and modernised both Whiston and St Helens Hospitals, resulting in modern state of the art health care facilities for the treatment and care of patients. St Helens Hospital was completed in 2008 and Whiston Hospital in 2010. The hospitals include 887 inpatient beds with state of the art CT and MRI facilities existing on both hospital sites. CT and MRI scanners at St Helens have also recently been upgraded including installation of a high field 3 Tesla MRI scanner. The DEXA scanner is also located at St Helens Hospital.The Trust delivers acute hospital care, intermediate care, community, and primary care services to a population of over 600,000 people with a combined workforce of around 9000 dedicated and skilled staff from 17 locations including Whiston, Southport & Formby, St Helens, Ormskirk, and Newton hospitals.The Trust provides regional services for burns, plastic surgery, and spinal injuries to more than 4 million people across Mersey and West Lancashire, Cheshire, the Isle of Man and North Wales.As a Trust, our aim is to provide a high quality service to all patients. Job responsibilities- Collaborate with our expert team to provide high quality care to patients living with frailty across various care settings.
- Participate in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of frailty patients.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of personalised care plans and CGA's.
- Engage in research and continuous improvement initiatives to advance frailty care.
- Act as a mentor and educator for junior medical staff and healthcare professionals.

- Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- ALS Certification
- MRCP
- Evidence of higher learning (to Masters' level or above)
- Speciality Certificate in Geriatric Medicine
- A minimum of four years' experience of a broad range of medical/surgical specialties
- Two years' experience as a core medical trainee or has equivalent experience and competencies
- Extensive experience of working in geriatric medicine
- Understanding of Audit
- Evidence of active participation in audit
- Understanding of Research
- Evidence of contributing to teaching and learning of others
- Active participation in research projects
- Significant experience of applying sound clinical knowledge and judgment and prioritise clinical need
- Experience technical competence/diagnostics skills and judgment required
- Strong oral and written communication skills, capacity to communicate effectively and sensitively to others, able to discuss treatment options with patients and their families in a way they can understand
- Aware of own limitations
- Judgement to work under pressure, capacity to work effectively under pressure and remain objective in emotive/pressurised situations
- Able to perform at a high level within a multidisciplinary team
