Job Description

Triple West Medical has been appointed by an NHS organization in SW Scotland to recruit a Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine for a substantive post. The position also considers a Locum Fixed Term Contract for a minimum of 12 months.

The NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community health services to approximately 350,000 people across multiple sites, employing over 8,000 staff. Located in Scotland's southwest region, the area features scenic coastlines and proximity to Glasgow. The role is primarily based at one site, with a requirement to cover a nearby second site. The main hospital is a modern 330-bed District General Hospital serving a population of 156,000.

The Emergency Department recorded 31,600 attendances in 2023. It serves local residents, tourists, and holidaymakers, leading to increased workload during spring and summer. In-patient care for adults is provided by the Department in an adjacent seven-bedded Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU), which currently runs five patient care pathways, including conditions like head injuries, anaphylaxis, post-sedation observation, acute intoxication, and renal colic.

Consultant-led Emergency Department Review Clinics are held three times weekly for minor injuries, wounds, burns, and fractures. The Orthopaedic Department offers daily Fracture Clinics, with additional clinics available in Ophthalmology, ENT, Maxillo-Facial Surgery, Cardiology Day Unit, and the TIA Clinic.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assessment, treatment, and appropriate disposal of patients attending the unit.
  2. Supervision of training-grade doctors, including instruction in practical procedures and delegation of routine work.
  3. Review of radiology and laboratory reports.
  4. Assisting in supervising the Ambulatory Care Unit during out-of-hours periods.
  5. Supporting review clinics in the Outpatients Department.
  6. Teaching of training-grade doctors. The candidate should have completed or be willing to complete ALS, ATLS, and APLS courses.
  7. Performing departmental audits.

Our client is willing to issue Certificates of Sponsorship to suitably qualified overseas doctors. GMC registration and relevant experience are essential.
