Specialty Doctor in Advanced Heart Failure, Cardiac Transplantation and Mechanical

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the West of Scotland Heart & Lung Centre based at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital. The role is open to candidates with a strong interest in Cardiac Surgery, Transplant, and Retrieval Surgery. A wide exposure to the surgical treatment and management of ischaemic heart disease and valvular heart surgery is anticipated. This is a fixed-term position of 12 months (initially). The main focus is on NORS retrieval & transplant surgery, along with active management of patients in ICU, HDU, and ward areas to improve patient care quality. The successful candidate will work alongside Consultant Intensivists, Surgeons, and nurse practitioners in critical care and ward settings.

This opportunity is suitable for candidates with a strong interest in Transplant and Retrieval Surgery. Experience in cardiothoracic DBD and DCD Heart and Lung retrieval surgery, as well as TransMedics OCS, is desirable but training will be provided. Essential qualifications include a strong background in cardiac surgery, post-operative cardiothoracic critical care, and ward management post-cardiac surgery.

The successful applicant will be an integral part of the Cardiothoracic Service multidisciplinary team and will contribute to departmental development, including multidisciplinary meetings and patient flow improvements.

The department supports fellows in obtaining certification for the Specialist Register through the Portfolio Pathway (CESR) and has success with the FRCS exam. Candidates demonstrating potential will receive coaching and support for future applications, including assistance in gaining necessary competencies as primary operators in theatre.
