Your role and development:

- Assess, investigate and treat patients presenting to the ED and make appropriate decisions regarding referral or discharge in a timely manner.
- Resuscitate, diagnose and initiate treatment of all emergencies.
- Lead the trauma and cardiac arrest teams.
- To work in all areas of the ED (Majors, Further Assessment (Minors),Paeds ED, Amb & Walk-in RAT, Resus).
- Assist, train and supervise ST/GP-VTS/FY2 trainees, Trust doctors, ENPs and ANPs in Emergency Medicine; report concerns to the Duty Consultant.
- Liaise with the nursing shift manager and other nursing staff to organise the allocation of work and ensure smooth running of the department.
- Manage the Emergency Department and the team as a whole.
- Maintain Punctuality, attend Board rounds and ensure required break/rest.
- Communicate and build good working relationship with the multidisciplinaryteam within ED and other Specialties.
- Ensure optimal record keeping and discharge summaries to guaranteecontiniuty of care4Assist the Trust in reaching external targets without compromising goodquality patient care.
- Actively participate in the departmental teaching, audits and Qualityimprovement projectsRealize and be committed to adult and child safeguarding requirements.
- Fulfil the statutory and mandatory training programme as per the Trust policy.
- Uphold confidentiality of all patient records and Trust information.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post is for 11 sessions per week. One of these 11 sessions per week is allocated to supporting professional activities (SPA). Based on educational needs, careers aspirations and progress, the post holder may have the opportunity to enrol onto the CESR Fellowship Programme in Emergency Medicine through which 3 months every year may be granted to give experience in other acute specialties like Paediatrics, Acute Medicine, ITU and Anaesthetics (the doctor will still be required to do night shifts and weekends in ED). This programme would enable the post holder to develop the competences required for CESR application to enter the Specialist Register. The work pattern of all our Doctors has been recently revised to fit the rules and regulations of new deal contract for Junior Doctors. The rota comprises of a 21 weeks rolling rota with 1 in 3 weekends and includes out of hours and night shifts. The work pattern consists of 4 different shifts: 08:00-16:00, 13:00-22:00, 16:00-00:00 and 22:00-08:15 hrs.
Clinical working hours will average around 40 hours per week across the period of the rota. The rota may be revised periodically as per the terms and conditions and the requirements of the department. The post holder may be asked to work extra hours in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances such as in the event of a major incident. The aim of this post is to improve the care of patients attending the Emergency Department and to enhance the supervision and support of junior medical staff.
Person Specification Qualifications- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCEM or FRCEM Primary
- Full GMC registration and current licence to practise.
- FRCEM or equivalent MRCP, MRCS.
- Post-qualification experience including within Emergency Medicine.
- Previous NHS experience
- Experience in Paediatrics, Acute Medicine, ITU, Anaesthesia
- Registrar level experience in Emergency Medicine
