Speciality Doctor in Dermatology

The Department of Dermatology is a Humber-wide Hub and Spoke service delivered largely from Castle Hill Hospital site with spoke facilities at Scunthorpe General Hospital, Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Goole Hospital and the East Riding Community Hospital. Our facilities see care delivered to a population of 600,000 patients that are able to access Urgent Suspected Cancer care, PUVA/B, minor surgical facilities, leg ulcer clinics, acne, photodynamic therapy, patch testing, biologics, systemics and dressings. The department also delivers a large proportion of Clinical Nurse Specialist activity that covers medical and surgical elements of care. All services are delivered as an outpatient, however the service does support acute referrals from inpatients across all of our hospitals.
Main duties of the job- To ensure the provision of a first class clinical service
- To provide effective leadership to junior doctors and medical students
- To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
- To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Operational Group's services plans
- To deputise on occasion for absent colleagues in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service
- To perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant, or to achieve continuity of care
- Clinical activity consists of adult and paediatric new and follow up outpatient clinics, for routine, urgent and USC categories, minor operations procedures and MDT participation

Person Specification Professional Registration- Full Registration with the GMC
- Valid ALS certificate
- Postgraduate qualification in Education or significant experience in post graduate training
- 4 years Dermatology experience
- Ability to offer sound clinical opinion on range of acute medical conditions
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Ability to manage and lead medical/surgical teams
- Ability to lead on smooth and efficient running of the unit
- Ability to organise, prioritise and manage high intensity workload
- Ability to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery
- Experience of supervising junior medical staff
- Commitment to formal and informal teaching of medical staff, AHPs and medical students
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Ability to extrapolate clinical research evidence to care for individual patients
- Evidence of having conducted a practice changing audit
- Experience of teaching/training in clinical courses (e.g. IMPACT Course, Faculty, ALS Instructor, ALERT Instructor)
- Original peer reviewed research publications
- Ability to work flexibly in a changing health service
- Excellent manner with patients, being sensitive to their needs and fears
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, Nurses and other health professionals and flex style as appropriate
- Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels
- Ability to communicate effectively with external agencies and other disciplines
