Job Description
Specialist Surgical Pharmacist

An opportunity has arisen to join the Surgery Pharmacy Team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Pharmacy team based at the Oxford Road Campus.

We provide pharmaceutical care to the following surgical specialities, many of which are tertiary services:

  • Vascular
  • Head & Neck
  • Urology
  • Elective Surgical Admissions
  • Major trauma
  • Orthopaedics
  • Emergency Surgical Admissions.
Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have a varied opportunity to take on directorate responsibilities within the surgical division, allowing them the opportunity to gain experience in a number of areas including service & guideline development, new drug applications, MDT working and audit whilst also gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience in a range of surgical specialities at ward level. Applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a team whilst also managing your own workload. This role is perfect if you are innovative, enthusiastic, dynamic, flexible, compassionate and passionate about providing excellent pharmaceutical care to patients throughout their surgical journey.

This post is based at the Oxford Road Campus.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Vocational Master's degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
  • Non Medical Prescribing Qualification

  • Analytical/problem solving skills particularly with respect the use of medicines.
  • Ability to work on initiative and as part of the team
  • Ability to recognise own limitations and boundaries and need to consult with senior colleagues
  • Good communication skills both spoken and written
  • Negotiation and influencing skills
  • Organised and methodical approach to work
  • To be motivated and have ability to motivate others
  • Teaching and tutoring skills
  • Ability to develop services to a designated area.
Knowledge
  • Excellent all round clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills
  • Knowledge of national guidance (NICE, NSF's) and evidence base medicine
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Expert knowledge of drug related admissions and adverse drug reactions
  • Awareness of current Government, Trust and local policies
  • Audit / research experience
Experience
  • Post registration hospital experience or equivalent documented clinical experience
  • Completion of first year of post-graduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy
  • Specialist hospital pharmacy experience or relevant area expertise
  • Experience in training and supervising others
  • Experience of delivering a clinical pharmacy service
  • Evidence of published audit/ research
  • Fully completed post graduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy
