We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Specialist Study Skills Tutor to join our team supporting disabled students particularly those with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD) and Autism (ASC) to succeed in their academic studies.

You will provide individualised 1:1 study skills support to students, tailoring the level and type of support to meet each student's needs.This includes helping students develop effective organisation, time management, workload planning and independent learning strategies enabling them to maintain academic progress while navigating challenges associated with their disability. For DSA-funded students you will be required to provide a minimum of 12 hours of 1:1 support per week.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver personalised study skills support to disabled students with SpLD and ASC both in person and online

Support students to develop independence, confidence and effective learning strategies

Create and deliver small group sessions and workshops

Develop engaging content for student Padlets and other learning resources

Proactively contact students who have missed sessions to encourage re-engagement

Contribute to innovative projects aimed at improving student engagement and support

Support the development of service provision in collaboration with the management team

Provide guidance and support to external study skills tutors working through Unitemps

Support the Lead Specialist Study Skills Tutor in developing and enhancing current provision

Collaboration and Engagement

Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Promote the University's disability support services to prospective students and families helping to uphold DMU's strong reputation for inclusive support

Take a proactive student-centred approach in all aspects of the role

Candidates will preferably have recent and relevant experience supporting adults with Specific Learning Differences within a Higher Education environment. This includes supporting students to become familiar with university procedures, the range of available support mechanisms and enabling them to access appropriate services.

You will be proactive and flexible in your approach have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate the ability to prioritise your workload effectively.

It is essential that the successful candidate holds a professionally accredited and approved SpLD teaching qualification along with the relevant professional body membership outlined in the Department for Education (DfE) mandatory qualification criteria for the roles of Specialist One-to-One Study Skills and Strategy Support for Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) and Autism (ASC).
