Posted 2 hours 58 minutes ago by Randstad Student Support
Do you want to use your understanding of neurodiversity to help students thrive academically?
Randstad Student Support is seeking qualified, analytical, and supportive Specialist Study Skills Tutors to work with students on the autism spectrum across Scotland. In this role, you will provide essential, one-to-one academic support, helping autistic students translate their unique talents into academic success.
About the RoleAs a Specialist Study Skills Tutor for autistic students, your focus is entirely on the mechanics of learning, processing information, and academic execution. You won't be teaching subject-specific course content. Instead, you will help students master executive functioning skills, decode ambiguous academic language, and build a structured approach to their coursework.
Key Responsibilities:Deliver tailored, 1-to-1 study skills sessions designed for the cognitive and processing styles of students on the autism spectrum.
Translate ambiguous assignment briefs or open-ended questions into clear, actionable, and linear steps.
Teach practical strategies for advanced essay structuring, thesis development, critical thinking, and proofreading.
Help students overcome executive functioning challenges, including time management, organising research, and overcoming "academic paralysis."
Introduce and guide students in using assistive software (such as mind-mapping tools or distraction-free writing applications) to organise their thoughts.
Maintain accurate, confidential records of sessions via Randstad's online portal.
Because this is a specialised role funded through Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA), candidates must hold specific, recognised qualifications and professional memberships that validate their capability to provide autism-specific study skills tuition.
Essential Criteria:Qualifications: An advanced or postgraduate qualification in education, teaching, or a relevant discipline, with specific training/modules centered on autism and neurodiversity.
Professional Membership: Current membership with a recognised professional body required for autism-specific DSA study skills funding (such as the National Autistic Society/UMHAN).
Experience: Proven experience teaching or providing academic support to autistic individuals, preferably within further or higher education.
Skills: A deep appreciation for clear, literal, and non-ambiguous communication, coupled with excellent organisation and patience.
Highly Competitive Pay: £28.00 per hour, plus accrued holiday pay.
Flexibility: Work standard college hours that fit perfectly around your existing schedule or private practice.
Fulfillment: Directly empower neurodivergent students to navigate college independently and achieve their academic goals.
Support: Access a dedicated Randstad consultant and simple digital systems to easily manage your diary.
If you have the professional credentials and the passion to make higher education accessible and structured for autistic students in Scotland, we want to hear from you.
