Specialist, Service Provider Mechanical Trainer

In this role, you will deliver specialist mechanical engineering training to Military Engineers, equipping soldiers with the technical expertise and confidence to maintain and repair critical equipment.
This role aligns to industry-level titles such as Mechanical Engineering Instructor, Plant Maintenance Trainer, Defence Technical Trainer, or Engineering Lecturer (Mechanical).

As a Mechanical Training Instructor, you will deliver high-quality, hands on training across C Vehicles and Engineer Construction Plant equipment. You'll translate complex mechanical systems into practical, applied learning that builds competence, safety awareness and operational confidence.
In your first six months, you'll establish credibility with learners, deliver engaging instruction aligned to Defence standards, and contribute to maintaining a safe, high-performing training environment.

What You'll OwnThis role is about delivering excellence in technical instruction and learner development.
You will:
- Deliver engaging, technically accurate training on the maintenance and repair of in-service C Vehicles and Engineer Construction Plant equipment.
- Teach core mechanical engineering topics including transmissions, steering, suspension, braking systems, hydraulics, electrical and electronic systems, fault diagnosis, bench fitting, and workshop management.
- Assess and mark learner performance in line with military and awarding body standards.
- Maintain accurate training documentation, equipment records and learning materials.
- Uphold high standards of safety, welfare and professionalism in workshop and classroom settings.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support departmental objectives, including deputising for the Section Leader where required.
Success in this role means confident, competent learners who are technically capable, safety conscious and ready to perform in demanding operational environments.
About YouYou bring strong mechanical engineering expertise and a commitment to developing others.
You have:
- A Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification (Engineering Maintenance or similar).
- City & Guilds 620 Pt III or Military Trained Fitter (or equivalent).
- Experience working with plant vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
- A Professional Teaching Certificate - or the willingness to achieve one.
- A commitment to Defence Instructional Techniques and ASLS Instructor training.
- Category C, G & H licences (or willingness to obtain where acceptable).
You're someone who:
- Communicates clearly and confidently in practical training environments.
- Maintains high standards of safety, discipline and professionalism.
- Takes pride in developing others and seeing learners progress.
- Thrives in structured, standards-driven environments.
Desirable experience includes NVQ Assessor/Verifier qualifications, prior instructional experience, or a military background.
