Specialist Pharmacy Technician- E&T

Working cross site and contribute to all aspects of Pharmacy technician, assistants and support staff training and assessment. Ensuring sufficient skills, knowledge and competence to meet the professional and service standards required by General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care.

Main duties of the job
  • To line manage Apprentices and rotational staff and other relevant staff members, ensuring that all aspects of performance, attendance, sickness, training and appraisal are addressed in accordance with Trust Policy. To behave as a role model and provide mentorship to staff.
  • To support in the Pre-registration pharmacy technician & rotational Pharmacy Technician meetings. Promote UHL Pharmacy by liaising with regional and national education and training groups, key networks and stakeholders to ensure that UHL is working in line with national standards
  • Support the system for monitoring training, appraisal, registration and CPD for all staff.
  • Support the technical aspects of pharmacist training, ensuring sufficient skills, knowledge and competence to meet the professional and service standards required by General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC

Job responsibilities
  • Lead the training and development of all support staff ensuring the plans of the lead pharmacist and Principal Pharmacy technician for Professional development are fully implemented and working effectively
  • To be a dedicated source of support for staff providing mentorship in the workplace so staff are fully supported in their training and assessment
  • Ensure a timely communication of training and development issues on site, through the maintenance of the training notice board, intranet site, participation in the training newsletter and verbal communication.
  • Manage on a local level the completion of all competency assessments, mandatory and statutory provision so each member of staff has a record of competency in these areas. To undertake peer review and revalidation of competency where appropriate
  • Co-ordinate local workplace visits for potential students and dispensing assistants to ensure the successful outcome of the recruitment and selection process for these staff groups
  • Co-ordinate the planning and delivery of local induction training for all staff, including scheduling staff to attend the UHL induction programme, so that each new starter has an induction booklet and record of competencies achieved.
  • Participate in Trust pharmacy PDCA meetings so the education and training agenda is moved forward to meet the needs of the workforce and current legal requirements.

Provide training advice in the following areas to managers:

Study leave

  • To ensure all records of training and development are kept current so the lead pharmacist PDCA has up to date information in this area.
  • Participate in dispensary activities, providing appropriate cover as required
  • Participate in departmental arrangements for late clinic, weekend and bank holiday duties
  • To ensure all complaints about the service are recorded and dealt with effectively and promptly according to hospital procedure.

Person Specification Training & Qualifications
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Society
  • BTEC or NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Qualification or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
  • Has a TAQA award, A1 NVQ assessor qualifications or equivalent

  • Previous experience working as a Medicines Management Technician
  • Previous training experience
