Pharmacy Services

Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Glasgow

Band 7 (12 months)

37 hours per week

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced clinical pharmacist with excellent communication skills to join our Older Peoples Service clinical pharmacy team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The team provides a service to just under 200 care of the elderly and stroke patients in the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit, Medical Receiving Unit and downstream acute wards with 5 further rehabilitation wards and acute rehabilitation centres off-site within Stobhill Hospital and Lightburn Hospital. You will be an active member of the clinical team, contributing to multidisciplinary comprehensive geriatric assessment and polypharmacy review. You will act as a source of information and prescribing support, providing information on all aspects of drug use including patient safety and also contribute to the delivery of the pharmacy strategy. You will have the opportunity to participate in team meetings, research and quality improvement. This is an exciting time to be part of the Older Peoples Service team as management of frailty is a national priority and pharmacist involvement is recognised as essential to the team approach. This post is being funded as part of expanding the existing Frailty Service to meet the demands of a growing patient cohort due to the ageing population. The pharmacy team is also currently involved in providing heart failure with preserved ejection fraction clinics as part of a joint project and developing pharmacist stroke clinics. The team is committed to seeking opportunities to develop new roles and advance practice in line with the Pharmacy Strategy.

The post aligns to four-pillar working and the post holder should have completed, or be near to completion of, SVTS stage 2 or the RPS post-registration foundation programme. Applicants should be Independent Prescribers or working towards this qualification. Opportunities to advance your practice in line with the RPS Advanced Practice Curriculum will be encouraged within the team environment and members of the team are actively completing their portfolios. As part of our commitment to the development of others, you will also support the development of our foundation pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, technical staff and experiential learning students.

Glasgow Royal Infirmary is a busy teaching hospital situated in the North of Glasgow and has an excellent team of friendly pharmacy staff committed to modernisation of services.
