Specialist Neurorehabilitation Dietitian

The role will provide a dietetics service for patients undergoing neurorehabiliation, providing specialist nutrition support to patients recovering from neurological conditions. This will be an exciting opportunity to work autonomously to develop the dietetic service within this speciality. The role will also provide cover to the neurosciences and trauma wards which includes a variety of patients including those under neurology, neurotrauma, neurosurgery and trauma services. There will also be the opportunity to contribute to teaching and training for a variety of staff in the Trust. The ability to be flexible and organised is a key attribute of the successful candidate along with excellent communication skills.
Main duties of the jobTo provide an evidence-based, effective and responsive dietetic service to the 8-bed neurorehabilitation service that provides Rapid Access to Acute Rahabilitaiton (RAAR). In addition to these beds, the role will also provide cover across the neurosciences (including neurology, neurotrauma and neurosurgery) and trauma wards. The role requires close working with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) including attending and contributing to ward rounds, board rounds and MDT meetings. To manage home enteral feeding discharges independently, liaising with all relevant specialist services to achieve this in a timely manner. To be responsible for planning and delivering specialist training to medical staff, nurses, students and other health care professionals.To ensure that audit and quality improvement is undertaken on a regular basis.

Person Specification Qualifications- HCPC registered
- NHS experience
- Qualification or evidence of experience in neurosciences, neurorehabilitation and trauma.
- Experience in complex nutrition support
- Experience in managing patients who do not have capacity to make decisions for themselves.
- Understanding of team dynamics and experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Documented evidence of commitment to CPD
- Demonstrable understanding of clinical governance and its relevance to everyday practice
- Knowledge of nutritional support in a variety of clinical areas
- Experience of delivering undergraduate student supervision and clinical education to postgraduate standard in area of speciality
- Ability to problem solve, analyse complex clinical problems, and create practical solutions to provide best clinical care
- Able to undertake accurate anthropometric measurements e.g. weights, heights, skinfold thickness to support the assessment of patients nutritional status
- Ability to work effectively single-handedly with individuals and group and deliver complex nutritional information.
- Ability to use behavioural change/ motivational interviewing techniques to facilitate change
- Ability to implement dietetic care plan and provide specialised advice concerning the care of patients in area of speciality
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with people e.g. via advocacy/interpreters
- The ability to communicate with patients in an empathetic manner regarding their treatment and procedures
- Ability to communicate complex medical conditions in a sensitive and easily understandable language
- Regularly undertakes R&D activity e.g. Critical Appraisal, Audit and is confident in the audit process
- Good organisational skills i.e. managing own workload
- Ability to be self-motivated, take own initiative and plan own workload
- Experience of leadership skills i.e. through development of a project/ service development or managing staff.
