Specialist Learning Intervention Teacher
Posted 9 hours 15 minutes ago by Independent Schools of New Zealand
Inspiring young minds. Leading with heart. Teaching with purpose.
Medbury School is one of New Zealand's leading independent preparatory schools for boys, proudly guiding ākonga aged 5 to 13 to learn, lead, and succeed. We have a proud heritage and a bold future, driven by a vision to personalise learning for every boy and provide a holistic education that fosters character, confidence, and curiosity.
Due to retirement, we are seeking a passionate educator to join our Focused Learning Service. This team is led by an education specialist and is committed to evidence based intervention, working collaboratively to support both teaching staff and ākonga in a nurturing, boy friendly environment. This is a part-time, fixed-term position through to the end of 2025, pending a review of resource requirements.
About You
You will bring expertise in supporting ākonga who learn differently and a proactive approach that aligns with Medbury's values of Respect, Empathy, Excellence, and Integrity. To be successful in this role, you will have:
• New Zealand teacher registration and experience delivering learning support interventions to primary aged students.
• Experience with, or motivation to learn, scripted Direct Instruction programmes.
• The ability to deliver highly structured, precision teaching interventions.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills aligned with evidence based practice.
• The ability to develop lasting relationships to connect with groups of ākonga, particularly at Year 8 level.
• A collaborative approach to promoting awareness of learning challenges and strategies to support ākonga and their whānau.
Why Medbury?
This is a meaningful opportunity to make a tangible difference for our ākonga, working within a team that values innovation, tradition, and personalised education.
