Job Overview

To be a core member of the Adult Eating Disorders multi disciplinary team, participating in the provision of on going day care assessment and treatment, care planning and treatment of patients with moderate to severe mental health problems. Based at Farnham Road Hospital, Guildford and satellite East service in Leatherhead.

Job Responsibilities

Independently and comprehensively assess clients referred to the Outpatient service, develop care plans, monitor physical and mental health risks in conjunction with the MDT, and evaluate and plan discharge. Liaise, advise and support other mental health agencies regarding eating disorder matters. Offer support, supervision and mentoring for students on placement and follow successful completion of mentorship courses. Represent the AEDS multidisciplinary team at professional/network meetings to provide advice or consultation on complex cases. Develop and implement systems to monitor and evaluate the role. Assess the quality of service provided and recommend improvements to the Service Manager. Identify opportunities for research and audit activities that contribute to service development, and participate in agreed research projects. Supervise lower grade AEDS professionals/nurses and offer support and supervision to junior team members. Obtain CBT E and SSCM training and supervision and deliver these evidence based treatments as per NICE guidance. Undertake additional ED specific therapeutic training, both in house and external, to enhance professional skills and knowledge.

Qualifications

• NMC Registration as a Registered Mental Nurse (RMN)
• Degree in Mental Health Nursing
• Mentor preparation or teaching and assessing in clinical practice

Experience

• 18 months post qualification experience working in a patient facing mental health setting
• Desirable experience with people with eating disorders, but a keen interest and willingness to develop specialist knowledge is acceptable
• Experience supporting students on placement
• Experience providing supervision
• Knowledge of Child Protection and Adult Protection
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Ability to move and handle lightweight load
