Due to a maternity leave, an excellent opportunity has arisen within Brent Therapy Services for a Specialist Children's Physiotherapist.

This opportunity is for a fixed term post in the MSK team with opportunities to work in other community settings such as preschool/community/schools teams, based in the culturally diverse, London Borough of Brent.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the integrated team, you will provide a high quality physiotherapy service to Children & Young People, aged 0 to 16 years with MSK/Orthopaedic/Rheumatology conditions. You will hold a varied community caseload and will be expected to undertake specialist physiotherapy assessments and devise client centred treatment interventions.

Job responsibilities

To support provision of a high-quality childrens physiotherapy service to a caseload of children and young people ages 0-16 years with identified MSK/orthopaedic/rheumatological physiotherapy needs. There may also be opportunities to work in other community settings such as home visits, mainstream schools, special schools and pre-school settings.

It is assumed that the post holder will have had previous paediatric physiotherapy experience, providing specialist physiotherapy to children in a variety of settings including MSK/Orthopaedic/Rheumatology specialities.

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner providing a specialist physiotherapy service to a designated caseload of children with a range of physical and mobility difficulties and Special Educational Needs (SEN). A significant proportion of these children will have English as an additional language (EAL). He/she will be expected to manage their own caseload, travelling between community settings as necessary and working alongside teaching, medical and nursing staff to ensure specialist therapy programmes are in place for children under their care. He/she will be expected to work collaboratively children/young people (CYP), parents/carers and with colleagues in Health, Education and Social Services in planning and delivery of services.

The post holder will contribute to departmental meetings, clinical audit and research projects. They will provide advice and deliver training to other professionals and parents/carers on all aspects of paediatric physiotherapy. He/she will provide clinical education and training to physiotherapy students and will supervise the work of the PTAs and LSAs.

Person Specification Education/Qualification

• Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
• HCPC registered
• CSP Membership
• APCP Membership

Experience

• Relevant post graduate experience as a Band 5 Physiotherapist
• Appropriate paediatric experience in community settings/ schools / patient homes/MSK/orthopaedic/rheumatology clinics
• Post-graduate experience covering core rotations, including paediatric and MSK rotations
• Ability to supervise junior staff/assistant/students
• Ability to delegate tasks
• Experience of MDT working
• Experience of working in NHS settings
• Experience of audit
• Teaching other professionals/carers

Skills and knowledge

• Ability to demonstrate on-going CPD and the use of evidence based practice including attendance of specialist courses relevant to children
• Knowledge of the range of equipment available to CYP
• Realistic about ability and able to seek help appropriately
• Ability to assess, set realistic goals and evaluate
• Ability to manage own caseload
• Ability to teach; service users/ families and professionals
• Knowledge of national policies and procedures in particular safeguarding children, SEN and disability act, National Service framework for children, the children's bill and foundation stage and National curriculum, SEND reforms

Key Attributes

• Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
• Experience in the use of electronic patient records, e.g. Rio, systmone, EMIS
