Day Rate: £DOE
About the role:
Harvey Nash's Pub Sec client is looking for an experienced Solution Architect to join their team within Digital Services. This national online platform has over 350,000 users each month.
You will be responsible for the overall solution architecture of the Programme. This includes leading the architectural approach to the procurement, selection, and integration of authentication services and any nationally provided services. Working collaboratively with the programme team and external stakeholders, you will provide architectural leadership and assurance to ensure that externally procured services are secure, scalable, interoperable, and deliver a high-quality user experience for education.
You will:
- Lead the design of the future architecture, including authentication, federated identity, and integration of national cloud-based education services.
- Ensure the authentication platform and federated identity services and any nationally provided services are designed and deployed to meet the needs of education and security, compliance, and usability requirements - including alignment with Digital Scotland Service Standards and the wider Programme goals.
- Design and oversee solutions that enable cloud-based solutions using single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), standards-based federation protocols, and user life cycle management across multiple organisations and services.
- Lead the replacement or integration of existing technology platforms, ensuring interoperability with Legacy services and new digital platforms.
- Perform and assure options analysis for new capabilities to ensure proposed solutions align with the target architecture and security strategy.
- Establish best practice approaches for delivering SaaS-based solutions, applying them pragmatically across the programme.
- Collaborate and work with customer organisations (including local authorities) and other national bodies to ensure all services meet the needs of its users.
- Work closely with colleagues in iTECS and partner organisations to ensure authentication and identity services integrate seamlessly with Scottish Government SCOTS services and equivalent environments in partner bodies.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across Directorates, Divisions, and customer organisations to ensure transition to services are well-managed.
- Represent the programme in governance forums, architectural review boards, and external stakeholder engagements, ensuring alignment with security, privacy, and interoperability objectives
Essential Criteria
- Experience of working on public sector or large-scale technology procurements, providing architectural expertise during supplier evaluation, solution assessment, and contract award processes.
- Significant experience designing and leading end-to-end solution architectures for large-scale, complex digital, data or technology services, balancing business, user, security and technical requirements.
- Proven ability to communicate complex architectural concepts to a wide range of stakeholders, influencing decisions at senior management and executive levels and building consensus across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience establishing and applying architecture standards, governance and assurance processes, with the ability to assess risks, evaluate options and ensure compliance with organisational, security and regulatory requirements.
- Strong knowledge of modern architecture practices, including cloud-based services, integration patterns, security, data and service design, with the ability to translate strategic objectives into practical technology solutions that deliver measurable outcomes.
