Background

Our team of expert military solicitorsensure service men and women have access to the specialist advicethey need.

The department help military servicepersonnel who need to bring a claim against the Ministry ofDefence due to their failure to adequately protect from illnessor avoidable injury.

The team advise on a full range of areas,including military deafness and cold and heat injuries.

The role

We are currently looking for Solicitor (0-3year PQE) to join the military department, particularly focusingon military deafness cases.

An estimated 300,000 ex-armed forcespersonnel in the UK suffer from noise-induced hearing loss andtinnitus. These injuries are not inevitable consequences ofmilitary life and the MoD has a duty of care to safeguardemployees from the risk of hearing damage.

Duties will include:

  • taking initial enquiries fromclientsand drafting witness evidence
  • considering and managinga high volumeofdisclosure of documents
  • updating clients on their claim
  • dealing with telephone enquiries fromclients
  • assisting in instructing counsel
  • preparation of court documents
  • preparation of detailed schedules ofloss
  • assessing complex medical conditions andconsideration of medical issues/ reports
  • review of reports from acousticengineering experts
  • review and advice on offers in respectof breach of duty and quantum

The successful candidate will be able toproactively manage their own case load with minimal supervision.The role also involves assisting with the supervision on theParalegal team.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Exposure to the claimant litigationprocess is essential
  • Experience of independently managing acase load
  • Previous experience of dealing withnoise-induced hearing loss claims would be a distinctadvantage, though not essential
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent client care
