The Role

We are looking for an experienced Software Tester/Test Engineer to join a major multi-year Risk IT programme within the financial markets sector.

You will be responsible for the functional and technical testing of a complex, business-critical risk management platform supporting areas such as margin calculation, risk monitoring, stress testing and collateral processes.

This is predominantly a Back End and maintenance testing role, working through a continuous flow of smaller development and change tickets. You will work in a highly technical Linux command-line environment, investigating issues, executing tests and maintaining existing Python-based automation scripts.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform functional and technical testing of Back End applications.
• Execute and maintain automated test scripts, primarily using Python.
• Use Linux CLI daily to investigate, test and troubleshoot applications.
• Write and execute SQL queries for data validation and testing.
• Analyse defects and investigate issues across complex systems.
• Work with developers and technical teams to validate fixes and system changes.
• Manage testing activities and defects through Jira.
• Support ongoing maintenance releases and smaller change requests.
• Contribute to improving existing test automation and testing processes.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 2 years' commercial software testing experience.
• Strong Back End/application testing experience.
• Hands-on Linux command-line experience - this is essential.
• Practical SQL skills.
• Working knowledge of Python, particularly maintaining or updating existing test scripts.
• Test automation experience.
• Experience with Git/GitHub and Jira.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and spoken English.

Desirable

• Experience within financial markets, trading, exchanges or clearing.
• Understanding of financial instruments such as equities, bonds, futures or options.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or other cloud technologies.
• Experience testing high-availability, high-performance or business-critical systems.

Ideal Candidate

You will be a technically minded Software Tester who is comfortable working primarily through the Linux CLI rather than GUI-based testing. You should be confident using SQL, able to understand and update existing Python scripts, and enjoy investigating technical issues within complex Back End systems.

Previous trading, exchange, clearing or wider financial markets experience would be highly advantageous.
