PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £45,000-£50,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

LOCATION: Office Base is Salford, MediaCityUK, Dock House. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate with balance office working of 2 days per week, with home working.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We're looking for a talented Software Engineer in Test, who is passionate about testing, as well as delivering innovative technology, to join our cross-discipline agile team, where you'll help shape the future of TV products for millions of viewers.


WHY JOIN THE TEAM

Based in MediaCityUK, Salford, you'll join one of our TV & Device experience teams to deliver a world-class connected TV experience for BBC iPlayer and Sounds. Your work will involve developing innovative application features, performing integrations across a range of TV devices, and enhancing the TV platform that powers both iPlayer and BBC Sounds. You will be engaged in all aspects of SDLC, including architectural changes, designs, development, testing and delivery, working closely with discipline leads. Whilst demonstrating audience advocacy throughout the delivery lifecycle, you will be reviewing new features to be implemented and be held accountable for leading and contributing in all related testing activities, ensuring delivery of high-quality experiences to our audiences! As an engineer in our team, you can spend 10% time of your time learning new skills, playing with new technology and developing yourself, because we understand the need to stay up to date and fresh in a constantly changing technical landscape.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

The ideal candidate would be enthusiastic, driven and value collaborative working. You have a keen eye for detail, ensuring software quality throughout. You enjoy thinking outside the box, and have a proactive desire to learn, grow, develop, and support in evolving and elevating the test discipline as well as wanting to work in a high-performing team, leading testing for complex and critical projects. Alongside this, we would look for you to be an active participant in fostering a collaborative culture throughout the organisation through active dissemination of knowledge, coaching, mentoring and inspiring other members of the test team.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

Experience in testing Web/Mobile &/Or TV platforms/devices

Experience in testing non-functional aspects - Performance, Load, Accessibility & Automation including Playwright

Experience working in multi-discipline teams, ideally using Agile methodologies (sprints, scrum)

Experience with writing Automation tests

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

Proven ability to test, deploy and support software in a complex, high volume, high performance environment

Proven track record of coaching more junior team members

Actively embraces many aspects of extreme programming such as pair programming, TDD and CI

Ability to understand complex requirements and translate them into suitable system designs and further break the work down into smaller tasks and stories

Experience of AWS cloud technologies, such as EC2, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, AWS Lambda
