Job Description Summary:
The Software Engineer-III designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software tools including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, and Internet-related tools. Determines software's compatibility with hardware and/or influences software's design in relation to hardware.
Additional Role: The ChangeMan developer designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs the ChangeMan ZMF product, primarily written in Assembler utilizing z/OS and associated components such as ISPF, REXX, VSAM, DB2, and CICS. Responsibilities include maintenance and development of new product features.
Position Reports to: Manager, Software Engineering
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Programming, conducting code reviews, and testing software to ensure quality of deliverables
- Executing various tests - unit, system, regression, integration, performance, volume
- Diagnosing, reproducing, and resolving customer issues with support
- Acting as the technical subject matter expert for a product domain
- Estimating work and communicating risks to management
- Handling multiple priorities with minimal supervision
- Breaking down features into tasks and understanding the overall feature set
- Ensuring work is tested, documented, and meets quality standards
- Participating in internal projects and other tasks as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- 5-10+ years of software engineering experience
- Expertise in Mainframe assembler programming
- Knowledge of IBM z/OS internals, storage, and file systems (VSAM, zFS, etc.)
- Experience in problem diagnosis, dump reading, and debugging (IPCS is a plus)
- Proficiency in z/OS utilities, JCL, and REXX
- Experience with software vendors is strongly preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- DB2 experience
- CICS experience
- ChangeMan experience
Travel Requirements: 0-10%
