Software Engineer - Java/Spring Boot - SC Cleared - Contract

Location: Leeds (Hybrid - 1-2 days onsite per week for first 2 months, then 1 day per month thereafter)
Duration: 6 months
Day Rate: £575 Inside IR35
Clearance: Active SC Clearance Required

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced SC Cleared Software Engineer to join the Orange Team in Leeds. You will play a key role in designing, coding, testing, and delivering secure, scalable software solutions using Java and Spring Boot. This role involves applying modern software engineering practices, mentoring peers, and ensuring high-quality outcomes across microservices and API-driven architectures.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, correct, and document software components of medium to high complexity using agreed standards and tools.

• Translate user stories into robust technical solutions and provide guidance to other engineers.

• Define and implement test plans, testing strategies, and automated test suites.

• Ensure both functional and non-functional requirements are met to a high standard.

• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and professional development support to team members.

• Drive adoption of modern engineering and DevOps practices across the team.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to optimise the use of underlying platforms and services.

Essential Skills & Experience

We expect all Software Engineering candidates to demonstrate:

• Strong Back End development experience using Java and Spring Boot.

• Proficiency with Git for version control.

• Experience with Docker and containerisation concepts.

• An understanding of asynchronous messaging patterns (eg, Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).

• Awareness of CI/CD practices and their implementation.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Exposure to Kubernetes (K8s) and container orchestration.

• Experience with Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) integration.

• Familiarity with AWS and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts (eg, Terraform).

• Experience working with microservices and API design principles.

• Knowledge of TDD/BDD principles and automated testing frameworks.

Additional Information

• Active SC Clearance is mandatory (required for accessing production systems).

• This contract is Inside IR35.
