Job Description
The CompanyOur client is a large, north east based, organisation who support a diverse range of customers. They've invested heavily in their IT services for a number of years and plan to continue to improve this area, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency through good use of technology. The RoleThe development team is well established and high performing. They support a range of software solutions, from bespoke applications to off the shelf packages, working on development and configuration following product roadmaps. You will take responsibility for the development strategy, implementing processes, methodologies or tools that will lead to improvement in best practice with the team. This role will also require you to work alongside the product managers to ensure that resources are available to deliver the roadmap to the agreed timescales. The Development Manager will;
  • Drive and empower the team to produce high value outputs.
  • Remove impediments and continuously strive to make the team more efficient and remove single points of failure.
  • Have a vision of how the team must evolve to meet the objectives of the Target Operating Model and clearly articulate this to ensure the team have clear direction which will build and maintain momentum.
  • Coach the team in new ways of working, particularly Product-driven Agile/Devops methodologies and encourage them over time to become self-organising.
  • Understand the technical strengths of the team and ensure that any limitations are strengthened through development and cross-skilling.
The PersonCandidates will need to have a strong technical background, including working on enterprise scale application development. With a keen interest in development methodologies and best practice you'll be comfortable driving changes to improve delivery. You should have experience managing a team of over 12 permanent developers, instilling modern development processes, in addition to the planning/management of resources to ensure successful delivery of solutions.This is a permanent position with salary of up to £64,000 and fantastic benefits package, based in the North East of England. Candidates should be prepared to spend 2 days per week in the office although that is likely to be flexible.
