Job Description

Software Build Manager/Software Build Architect - Hybrid but with travel to Bradford (1 - 2 days a week onsite) - Inside IR35, 6 months + extension - £650 - £695 per day

Overview

We're seeking an experienced Software Build Manager/Software Build Architectto lead the build, integration, and deployment workstream within a complex, multi-partner IT transformation programme for a large utilities' organisation. The role will oversee the build pipelines, release orchestration, environment management, and cross-vendor build alignment across multiple platforms (cloud, web, mobile, integration layers).

You'll be the central coordination point between development teams, DevOps, QA, infrastructure, and partner organisations to ensure smooth, secure, and auditable releases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the build and release process across multiple platforms and suppliers
  • Manage version control, branching, and release governance
  • Coordinate releases across internal teams and partner vendors
  • Enforce quality gates, build validation, and deployment controls
  • Ensure auditability, traceability, and compliance of build artefacts
  • Lead release planning, dependency management, and cut-over activities
  • Identify risks, manage issues, and maintain rollback/recovery plans

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record as Software Build Manager/Software Build Architectin large, multi-vendor IT programmes
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of CI/CD tooling (eg Azure DevOps)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and integration of multiple environments
  • Solid understanding of version control and branching
  • Comfortable managing release governance, compliance, and technical audits
  • Strong Project Management skills
  • Excellent stakeholder and communication skills - able to manage partners, vendors, and internal teams

Desirable

  • Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks (eg ISO27001, ITIL, DevSecOps)
  • Previous experience in large-scale migration or digital transformation programmes
  • Experience of SAP, MS Dynamics and ESRI
