We are seeking a high-caliber Qualified Sociology Teacher (QTS) for a permanent position at our partner Secondary School in Huntingdon, commencing this September. This school is committed to fostering socially conscious, critical thinkers and is looking for a specialist who can inspire students to look beyond the surface of everyday life to understand the forces that shape human behavior.
Your Responsibilities- Academic Excellence: Plan and deliver high-impact Sociology lessons across KS4 and KS5, leading students through the complexities of families, education, crime and deviance, and social stratification.
- Theoretical Mastery: Guide students through the foundational perspectives of Functionalism, Marxism, and Feminism, ensuring they can apply these "lenses" to contemporary social phenomena.
- A-Level Specialism: Lead Year 12 and 13 cohorts through rigorous exam specifications (AQA/OCR), focusing on high-level essay writing, research methods, and the evaluation of sociological theory.
- Critical Inquiry: Cultivate a classroom culture of respectful debate, where students feel empowered to analyze sensitive topics such as class, gender, ethnicity, and globalisation with academic rigor.
- Research Leadership: Teach students how to evaluate the validity and reliability of various research methods, from quantitative surveys to qualitative participant observation.
- Pastoral Stewardship: Act as a Form Tutor, providing consistent academic and emotional support to a dedicated group of learners within the school's supportive framework.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory. A degree in Sociology, Criminology, or a related Social Science discipline.
- Analytical Precision: The ability to teach students how to structure complex arguments and use sociological evidence to support or challenge diverse viewpoints.
- Subject Passion: A genuine interest in current affairs and the ability to link classroom theory to real-world social change and policy.
- Classroom Authority: Exceptional management skills that ensure a safe, inclusive, and highly focused environment for every student.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
- Permanent Security: This is a direct-hire permanent contract starting in September, offering full integration into the school's staff body and long-term career stability.
