Social Care Workers

Full-time and Part-time positions available in Cork City

Horizons is looking to recruit suitably qualified and experienced Social Care Workers on a full-time and part-time basis to support people living in community residences to flourish and lead a life of their choosing.

This recruitment opportunity will assist in enhancing the overall quality of life for people supported in Horizons.

Salary: The 12-point salary scale for the post as of 01/02/2026:

New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit may be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland (Department of Health Circular 2/2011). Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of previous experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies.

Your role will assist in providing person centred opportunities for people living in their own home, along with support for activities of daily living, that can help to develop and maintain links with the wider community. A commitment to a person-centred, citizen based, social model of support is required. Focus on supporting the development of valued social roles is essential.

Essential Educational requirements:

  1. A Diploma or BA (Ord) Degree in Social Care Practice (Level 7 or higher on the Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI) framework).
  2. OR An equivalent social care qualification recognised by CORU's Social Care Workers Registration Board.
  3. AND Hold professional registration or be eligible for registration on the Social Care Workers register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registrations Board at CORU. Where registration has not yet been received from CORU, applicants must demonstrate evidence of application. Contract of employment will only be issued on receipt of CORU Registration.

On application candidates must have an up to date valid work permission and be eligible to live and work in Ireland.

Experience and skills:

  • 12 months experience in a healthcare setting.
  • An understanding of theory and practice in the delivery of individualised supports to people living in their own home.
  • An understanding of therapeutic approaches relevant to meet the needs of people.
  • Sufficient awareness of policy, legislative and professional requirements to ensure an appropriate standard of service delivery.
  • A Full Clean Driver's Licence is desirable.
  • Excellent report writing and organisational skills.
  • Display a good working knowledge of HIQA regulations and standards.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.

  • The ability to manage self in a busy working environment including the ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Flexibility and openness to change.
  • The ability to resolve conflict and empower people with sometimes quite divergent points of view.
  • The ability to evaluate information and make effective decisions in a timely manner.
  • A willingness to develop IT skills relevant to the role.
  • Knowledge of Person-Centred Planning.
  • Demonstrate initiative, good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
