Overview

External Site Manager - Groundworks & Underground Works

Location: Newmarket

Pay: £320-£350 per day + Overtime (DOE)

Duration: 32 months (140 weeks) - Long-term freelance opportunity

O'Neill & Brennan are recruiting for an experienced External Site Manager to oversee the groundworks and underground works package for a major tier 1 main-contractor on one of the most high-profile construction projects in the UK - the expansion of the second largest prison in the country.

This major project includes the development of new blocks, roads, workshops, and kitchens, and requires a skilled manager with a proven track record in delivering large-scale civil and infrastructure works.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee groundworks and underground works packages.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.
  • Liaise with the project team to meet programme and quality targets.
  • Maintain strict compliance with health & safety requirements on site.
  • Report progress and manage site logistics effectively.
Requirements
  • SMSTS qualification (essential).
  • Proven experience managing groundworks/underground works on large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to pass MOJ security vetting (mandatory for site access).
  • Relevant industry tickets and certifications.
