Job Description

Freelance Site Agent / Site Engineer - Marine Civil Engineering

Location: Newhaven, East Sussex

Contract: Freelance - 6 Month Rolling Contract

Rate: £400 per day (CIS)

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Site Agent / Site Engineer to oversee the delivery of marine civil engineering works on a long-term project in Newhaven. This is a freelance opportunity offering a 6-month rolling contract with the potential for ongoing work.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in civil engineering, particularly within marine, coastal, or heavy infrastructure projects, who is confident managing site operations while ensuring work is delivered safely, on programme, and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day delivery of marine and civil engineering works on site.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, direct labour, and plant to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Ensure works are carried out safely and in accordance with project specifications and relevant legislation.
  • Monitor programme progress and proactively resolve site issues.
  • Liaise with the Project Manager, client representatives, and key stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including diaries, progress reports, and quality documentation.
  • Ensure quality assurance procedures are followed and completed.
  • Assist with planning, method statements, risk assessments, and permits where required.
  • Support commercial and project teams with site-related information and progress updates.
Requirements
  • Previous experience as a Site Agent or Site Engineer within civil engineering.
  • Marine, coastal, waterfront, or heavy infrastructure project experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and maintain programme targets.
  • Valid CSCS Card (essential).
  • SMSTS (preferred).
  • First Aid at Work (desirable).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
