At Bristol Waste Company the SHEQ department are a key support function to a fascinating and diverse business. The company covers waste collections & processing, street cleansing, winter maintenance, fleet management, security, cleaning, cash in transit and more. Continuing to invest and develop, keeping our Environmental Sustainability goals at our core.We are looking for new team members to promote and drive our H&S Culture, performance, risk management, and compliance. Candidates will need relevant qualifications and experience, and to demonstrate approach and values to achieve success.You will provide professional advice and support on all safety, health, environment and quality matters to all levels of employees within the business to meet legal responsibilities and promote best practice, and monitor compliance in line with Business Management System.Key ResponsibilitiesLead SHEQ compliance across waste management operations, ensuring all activities meet environmental regulations, permits, and ISO standards.Drive a strong safety-first culture in high-risk environments, promoting safe handling, transport, and processing of waste materials.Provide expert SHEQ guidance to operational teams across collection, treatment, and disposal sites.Develop and maintain waste management, environmental, and SHEQ policies, ensuring alignment with legal and industry requirements.Oversee audits, site inspections, and training programmes to ensure continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.Act as the key point of contact for regulators (e.g. Environment Agency), auditors, and customers, with authority to stop unsafe or non-compliant operations.What We're Looking ForNEBOSH General certificate.Up to date with health, safety and environmental legal requirements.Knowledge and experience of Waste management industry, Facilities Management and or Similar risk level industry.Positive and dynamic approach to providing safe and effective delivery of care.Knowledge of ISO systems.Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety.Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.Experience of working within a large team multi sited team.To take ownership of complex and challenging problems and apply innovative solutions, in line with legislation and company policies and procedures.Working closely with the crews and support functions to deliver the right outcomes for the customer and the business.Our Benefits25 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays5% employer pension contributionFree BUPA Health Cash Plan and Employee Assistance ProgrammeOnsite physiotherapist and Cycle to Work scheme£200 employee referral bonusLearning and development opportunities with clear progression routesReward Gateway discounts at 900+ retailersEmployee recognition awards and long service awardsEveryone BelongsWe're proud to be an inclusive employer and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds.
