Service Designer (SMA) | 3-Month Contract | Outside IR35 | Hybrid

We are looking for an experienced Service Designer to join a major transformation programme, supporting the design and improvement of operational IT services across a complex enterprise environment.

This is a hands-on role focused on IT service and operational design, working closely with architecture, engineering, operations and security teams to create scalable, sustainable service models and operating frameworks. This is not a UX or visual design position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and document operating models, service processes and support frameworks.
  • Facilitate workshops with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Produce service design documentation, process flows, RACI matrices and service acceptance criteria.
  • Assess existing services, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support service transition activities, handover into BAU and operational readiness.
  • Manage dependencies, risks, stakeholder approvals and knowledge transfer.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in IT Service Design within complex transformation programmes.
  • Strong understanding of service management, service transition, operational readiness and operating models.
  • Experience working with cloud technologies, integrations, APIs, automation and identity/access management.
  • Strong Cyber Security background, ideally within SOC, Security Operations, SIEM or SOAR environments.
  • Experience collaborating across global teams and multiple suppliers.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and drive deliverables through to approval and acceptance.
  • Comfortable operating across both project delivery and BAU service improvement initiatives.

Highly Desirable

  • Experience designing services within Security Operations Centre (SOC) modernisation programmes.
  • Exposure to platforms such as Google SecOps, Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel or other enterprise security monitoring solutions.
  • Experience within large, complex multinational organisations.
  • Knowledge of DevOps, SRE and automation-led operational models.
  • Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments.

This role would suit a pragmatic and self-sufficient Service Designer who can bridge the gap between technical teams and operational service delivery, creating sustainable service models within a fast-paced, enterprise-scale environment.
