Senior Engineer Validation and Verification - EC&I

We are recruiting for a Senior Engineer Validation and Verification - EC&I to play a pivotal role in diversifying the nuclear industry and driving innovation.

Overview of the role

Senior Validation and Verification Engineers are integral to Rolls-Royce SMR's Systems Engineering approach, verifying that our power station designs meet all requirements. Using modern tools and techniques (analysis, rig testing, etc.), they help ensure delivery certainty before construction begins.

Engineers will be assigned specific areas of the power station based on expertise, typically complex, safety-critical, or business-critical. Responsibilities include developing verification strategies, working closely with design leads and technical specialists, and leading compliance assessments based on verification evidence.

A key aspect of the role involves coaching other Verification Engineers, enhancing team capabilities, and providing technical reviews of outputs.

Key Results and Achievements
  • Develop validation and verification strategies within assigned areas
  • Act as an intelligent customer in verification and validation processes
  • Support validation and verification of the safety case
  • Produce reports for regulatory bodies and engage with regulators
  • Define objectives and requirements for verification activities
  • Review, audit, and gather evidence of verification activities
  • Assess compliance through evidence collation
  • Manage technical interfaces across departments for coherent solutions
Verification and Validation Experience

Experience in verification and validation of new products in safety-critical, regulated industries (nuclear, power generation, process industry, oil & gas) is desirable. Experience includes strategy development, conducting verification activities, reviewing evidence, and assessing compliance.

Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation
  • Knowledge of controls and instrumentation design, preferably within nuclear or safety-critical industries
  • Understanding sensors, transducers, instrumentation used in industrial processes
  • Experience with electrical power systems design/verification
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic safety-related systems
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations, standards, and legislation
Training & Qualification

Degree or equivalent in civil, structural, mechanical engineering, or related fields. Professional recognition (e.g., IC, IStructE, IMechE) is preferred or being pursued.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: £48,000 - £63,000 (DOE) plus:

  • Performance bonus up to 12.5%
