Senior Transport Planner - People Movement

Our People Movement team is a specialist consultancy group operating across the UK, with hubs in London, Birmingham and Manchester, and the other regions of the company. As part of Arup's global skills network, we help clients understand how people interact with, move through and experience the built environment, supporting the delivery of safe, efficient and inclusive places.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Transport Planner (People Movement) to join our London team. This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the world's most complex and high-profile developments, helping to shape the design and operation of major transport hubs, sports venues, cultural destinations, commercial developments and masterplans.
Climate change Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.
Join our innovative, collaborative and creative People Movement team, where you'll contribute to projects that place people at the heart of design.
You will provide specialist People Movement consultancy across a broad range of projects, including:
- Major rail and metro infrastructure schemes
- Internationally recognised sports venues and major events
- Museums, galleries, libraries and cultural destinations
- Commercial developments and mixed-use masterplans
- High-profile international projects
You will lead the delivery of pedestrian planning studies, operational analysis and simulation modelling projects, translating complex technical outputs into clear, evidence-based recommendations for clients and stakeholders. You will contribute to technical leadership, support project delivery, mentor junior colleagues and play an active role in business development and work-winning activities.

Is this role right for you?We're looking for candidates who have:
- Experience delivering People Movement, pedestrian planning or transport planning projects, ideally within rail, sports, cultural or masterplanning sectors.
- Strong technical capability in pedestrian analysis and dynamic simulation modelling using tools such as Legion, MassMotion or Viswalk.
- Experience producing clear, high-quality technical reports and presenting evidence-based recommendations to clients and approving authorities.
- Proven ability to lead project tasks, mentor colleagues and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- A degree or higher qualification in Transport Planning, Engineering, Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography or another relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Ideally, you will also have experience of project management, business development, demand forecasting and the application of transport model outputs and survey data to support operational and design analysis.
