Job Description
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid - onsite in LE3 once every two weeks
  • Start Date: ASAP

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Transport Officer to support the delivery of home-to-school transport services for children and young people, including those with SEND and other vulnerable pupils.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy local authority team, ensuring transport arrangements are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with statutory requirements, while working closely with schools, transport providers, parents/carers and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate home-to-school transport arrangements in line with legislation and local authority policies.
  • Procure and manage transport services, ensuring appropriate risk assessments and contract compliance.
  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection requirements are embedded within all transport arrangements.
  • Liaise with transport operators, schools and parents/carers to resolve issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Respond promptly to service disruptions, emergencies and changing transport needs.
  • Apply council policies consistently while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
  • Negotiate, challenge and mediate with stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records and utilise Microsoft Office and specialist systems to support service delivery.

Candidate Requirements

  • Knowledge of home-to-school transport legislation and statutory duties.
  • Understanding of SEND and the transport needs of vulnerable children and young people.
  • Experience of procuring and managing transport services or contracts.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection best practice.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other IT systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal English.
